Single-skin masonry construction has a small but significant share of the New Zealand construction industry. t is seen as a robust construction system where the structural and weathertightness functions of a wall are carried out by a single construction element. This revised Good Practice Guide covers single-skin reinforced concrete masonry wall construction meeting the tructural requirements of NZS 4229:2013 Concrete masonry buildings not requiring specific engineering design. It is well illustrated with photographs and three-dimensional drawings to explain the requirements of single-skin masonry from initial design requirements through to the weatherproof coating options. At the time of publication, the Building Code Acceptable Solutions cite NZS 4229:1999 as a means f compliance. Until NZS 4229:2013 is cited in the Acceptable Solutions by the Ministry of Business, Innovation, and Employment (MBIE), designs and construction to NZS 4229:2013 must be submitted for consent as an alternative method. The guide covers performance requirements, design and detailing requirements, material selection, good construction practices, weathertightness and maintenance. It incorporates the requirements of New Zealand Building Code clause H1 Energy efficiency (3rd edition) and E2 External moisture. It references Acceptable Solution E2/AS3, which in turn references CCANZ CP 01 Code of Practice for Weathertight Concrete and Concrete Masonry Construction.
